THE HISTORY OF THE LOCATION
As well as being a most attractive market town, Oundle is also very much an historic place having been populated since the Iron Age. It is one of the most beautiful towns in Northamptonshire. The town lies in the ancient Nene Valley and is graced by some majestic Medieval, Elizabethan and Stuart buildings. Some of the best examples of these belong to the town's famous public school, which itself adds a definite feel of Old England to the community.
The hotel itself is steeped in history, the village of Oundle has its own fair share of "things that go bump in the night" and spooky goings-on. The hotel boasts oak beams, open fires and transformed windows. The intimate restaurant and cosy bar offer traditional British cuisine, fine wines and real ales. The Talbot has recently been fully refurbished, keeping its charm and character while bringing the facilities bang up to date. The four new feature suites are a wonderful addition.
The Talbot Hotel also contains a majestic staircase taken from Fotheringhay Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots made her final descent into the room that sealed her demise.
THE INVESTIGATION
We arrived at the Talbot Hotel and were immediately impressed by the looming exterior. The hotel looks every bit as impressive as it does in all the photographs.
As night drew in, the team decided to split up. The boys spent time in the main meeting hall where an EMF Meter had gone off the screen at an old stone Fireplace (see pictures) and the girls decided to spend time on the legendary staircase. After roughly 15 minutes the lights in the meeting room flickered and each candelabra flickered in turn. The girls caught nothing out on the staircase.
A group decision was then made to move into the Fotheringhay suite, where the room seemed to take on an eerie side when the lights went out. The room was pitch black and nothing could be seen without the use of night vision cameras. Unfortunately nothing was caught in the room, so the team decided to again, split up.
The boys spent further time in the Fotheringhay suite whilst the girls made their way next door to the "Mary Queen of Scots" room. Whilst in this room, the girls noticed a sudden drop in temperature which could not explained and the digital thermometer gave a reading of 14°, whilst at other times it read a constant 18°. The teams then switched rooms, and unfortunately nothing was caught on camera. However there was certainly a presence which seemed to be watching over the team as everybody felt uncomfortable in the hotel.
All in all, the Talbot Hotel investigation was certainly not one of the best. But we do believe that there is something in residence.
Upon viewing the locked off camera footage, the team were amazed to find an EVP of a man asking "Why" twice followed by a laugh in response to something Paul said. Click the PLAY button on the audio player below.
